Stacy Peralta is an American former professional skateboarder, filmmaker, and entrepreneur from Venice, California, born October 15, 1957, of Irish and Mexican descent. He began competing with the Z-Boys at age 15 and by 19 was the highest-ranked professional skateboarder in the world. In 1978 he co-founded Powell Peralta with manufacturer George Powell, then assembled and managed the Bones Brigade, a team including Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain, and Tommy Guerrero that dominated competition throughout the 1980s. In 1984 he directed The Bones Brigade Video Show, widely credited as the first-ever skateboarding video. He left Powell Peralta in 1991 to pursue filmmaking, directing the Academy Award-nominated documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys (2001), the feature film Lords of Dogtown (2005), and Bones Brigade: An Autobiography (2012). He was inducted into the Skateboarding Hall of Fame in 2010.
