Most Popular Skateboard Grip Tape

Which grip tape do professional skateboarders actually ride? Ranked by usage across 248 pro setups.

What Pro Skaters Use for Grip Tape

Grip tape is the single most concentrated category in our entire database — a small handful of brands cover the overwhelming majority of pros. The numbers below come straight from 248 verified pro setups.

Mob Griptape leads at 52.4%, with Shake Junt Griptape at 11.7%. Together that's 64.1% of every pro grip tape choice we track. Grizzly Griptape is the largest alternative at 11.7%, pushing the top three to 75.8% combined.

By Discipline

Which grip tape dominates each style of skating, based on the pros who skate that discipline:

  • street : Mob Griptape leads at 52.1% of 215 pros tracked.
  • park : Mob Griptape leads at 52.5% of 40 pros tracked.
  • vert : Mob Griptape leads at 68.2% of 22 pros tracked.

How to Choose Your Grip Tape

Grit level is the main spec that matters — coarser grit holds your feet better but wears down shoes faster. Application quality (no bubbles, clean edges) matters more for longevity than brand. Beyond that, it's mostly personal feel and loyalty to whichever brand you've always used.

If you're unsure where to start, the top two brands above cover 64.1% of pros and are stocked everywhere skate decks are sold.
